The FBH is pleased to present its latest response to the Companion Animals Welfare Council, CAWC, (http://www.cawc.org.uk) call for evidence in respect of:

"WELFARE ASPECTS OF MODIFICATIONS, THROUGH SELECTIVE BREEDING OR APPLICATION OF MODERN BIOTECHNOLOGY, TO THE FORM, FUNCTION, OR BEHAVIOUR OF COMPANION ANIMALS" (http://www.cawc.org.uk/consultationletter22jan04%201.pdf)

The finding of the CAWC report will be published latter this year and presented to DEFRA for consideration under the proposed Animal Welfare Bill, under this new legislation some aspects of selective breeding may be banned or restricted.

It is now illegal in the UK to import or sell live wild-caught protected species of tortoises or products made from them without a permit for commercial purposes. Breeders can sell only captive animals bred from parental stock in their care. FBH Discredits R.S.P.C.A. in Live Radio Debate
